Common green infrastructure options for every property

Rain barrels: Probably the easiest option to install and use, these 35-65 gallon containers are usually elevated on a stand and connected to a downspout to collect rainwater. Multiple barrels can be connected together for more storage or combined in one larger tank. You can use the stored water for your non-edible plants or outdoor cleaning, reduce your water consumption and manage stormwater runoff at the same time

Rain gardens temporarily retain stormwater and create native habitats that feed butterflies, moths, bees, and birds. Rain gardens can terraced if on a slope to retain and slow the flow of stormwater.

Permeable pavement: Permeable pavements are specialized surfaces that allow rainwater to pass through, reducing stormwater runoff and minimizing flooding by promoting natural water infiltration into the ground.
